About Time Arts

About the Time Arts Program

The Time Arts program at Northern Illinois University consists of course work within the areas of animation, video art, audio art, and interactive art. Rather than focusing on one area, students create, explore and study in all of these disciplines, with an emphasis of the overall integration of media elements. The end result is a BFA degree that prepares the student to respond to existing and rapidly changing technical and creative markets, as well as emerging fields and advanced study at the graduate level.

Time Arts students focus on the expressive and creative practice of art-making at the intersection between art, technology and science.

Our goal is to define and establish new fields of expression, practice and critical discourse in the context of emerging technologies and cultural art forms.

Students in the Time Arts BFA Program specialize in animation, media arts, interactive processes, generative algorithmic art, performative practices, acoustic/sonic output, video and emergent forms of media art.
