Rome Eternal: Constancy and Change

Tentative Dates: December 14—23, 2009

This program is designed to give students an overview and a deeper understanding of the development of Western civilization through intense focus on one of its most important cities. In doing so, you will explore Rome through on-site study of its architecture, as well as several museum visits designed to offer students an incomparable opportunity to confront and analyze great works of sculpture and painting in person.

Graduate Student Symposium

NIU Art History graduate students are invited to submit a research paper in competition for the distinction to represent the Art History Division of the School of Art at Northern Illinois University at the annual Graduate Student Symposium, hosted next spring by the Education Department of the Art Institute of Chicago.

If you would like to be considered, please submit a letter of interest, one-page abstract, and rough draft by email to Connie Rhoton, Art History Division secretary, This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it , by Thursday, November 19. Materials will be reviewed by members of the NIU Art History faculty. Finalists will be required to submit a presentation-length paper to the Art History Division for review by February 1, 2010.

All papers must be well written and reflect a high level of scholarly art historical research and analysis.
