Drawing is a visual tool for expression, description, and communication. The Drawing Faculty encourage and support students to expand their knowledge of materials, processes, and historic precedents. Drawing today embraces a wide variety of approaches spanning a range from works on paper to virtual modes of representation. The drawing program fosters contemporary approaches to formal and conceptual issues by incorporating new technologies and recent developments in the field with traditional approaches to materials and methods. Students in the drawing program might include, for instance, performance, installation, video, animation and photography in their expanded approach to drawing. The drawing program is enhanced by an active visiting artist and scholar program, which has hosted lectures and workshops by artists including Robbie Conal, Linda Weintraub, Enrique Chagoya, Jin Soo Kim, Justice Albie Sachs, Flo Oy Wong, Roger Shimomura, Linda Kallan, Duat Vu, and Susan Cheal, among many others.
